The CCC Community
Theatre will present the Broadway musical The Music Man on Friday,
July 16 at 7:30 pm, Saturday, July 17 at 3 pm, Friday, July 23 at 7:30 pm
and Saturday, July 24 at 3 pm
The Music Man
is a
musical
with book, music, and lyrics by
Meredith Willson.
The show is based on a story by Willson and Franklin Lacey. The plot
concerns
con man
Harold Hill, who poses as a boys' band organizer and leader, and sells band
instruments and uniforms to naive townsfolk before skipping town with the
cash. In River City,
Iowa,
prim but progressive Marian, the librarian, sees through him, but when Hill
helps her younger brother, Marian begins to fall in love with Harold.
Harold, in turn falling for Marian, risks being caught to win her.
In 1957, the show became a hit on
Broadway,
winning five
Tony Awards,
including “Best Musical”, and running for 1,375 performances. The
cast album
won the first
Grammy Award
for "Best Original Cast Album". The show's success led to revivals and a
popular
1962 film adaptation
and a 2003
television remake.
It frequently is produced by both professional and amateur theater
companies.
The CCC
Community Theatre is comprised of members from the Cultural Center community
courses: Band, Chorus and Broadway Kids. The three community groups were
formed in the fall of 2008 and they are free or for a minimal tuition. More
than 100 members of the combined groups will participate in publicity,
building sets, costume design, fund raising and performance. Ages range from
8 to 92.
The groups are
under the directions of Mary Ann Scialdo and Vicki Cuccia – Broadway Kids;
Helen Michaelson – Band; and Betty Lee Rey and Teil Rey – Choreography.
The Music Man
is
the second production of the CCC Community Theatre.
Ticket prices are $15 for Carrollwood Cultural Center members, $20 for

Charles Smith’s Lustful Temptations is a musical stage play packed with
action and suspense: a story filled with family conflicts, deceitful
relationships with a special focus on breast cancer.
Come
see life in the real world and witness pain and joy, tears and laughter,
suffering and hope!
A
portion of the proceed will go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation and
Christian Brothers Film Academy.
Charles E. Smith Jr. has been in many motion
pictures including: Lethal Weapon, Beverly Hills Cop II, Nuts, Spaceballs,
The Presedio, Godzilla, and Bird-(The Charlie Parker story) to name a few.
He has also appeared in many television sitcoms such as: Cheers, Martin,
Hill Street Blues, LA Law, Hotel, and Highway to Heaven. Mr. Smith has been
on stage in theater productions like: The Gospel at Colonus with Morgan
Freeman, Paint the White House Black, Only the Strong, and the Off Broadway
show Look What the Cat Dragged In.He’s been directed by Francis Ford
Coppola, Clint Eastwood, Michael Landon, Mel Brooks, and Stan Lathan to name
a few.
He is
now bringing his creativity and experience to the stage with his new musical
Lustful Temptations.

"Art
In Abundance"
Group show:
Make a Joyful Noise (September 2 – 29)
A
visual arts show in celebration of life and healing. Artists from the Tampa
Bay area will present ethereal and spiritual art, in the high key value
range. The show commemorates Mary Ann Scialdo, the Center’s artistic
director, who passed away from cancer this summer, and all whose lives have
been touched by illness. As a symbol of hope, the Center will be decorated
with strings of origami cranes.
An
Artist’s Reception will be held on September 10 from 6 to 9 pm at the

"Love, Sex and the IRS"
MDHF
Productions will be performing the comedy “Love, Sex and the IRS” at the
Carrollwood Cultural Center on Friday, September 3 at 8 pm, Saturday,
September 4 at 8 pm and Sunday, September 5 at 3 pm.
Tickets prices are $15 for regular admission and $10 for Carrollwood
Cultural Center members. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
The
show is written by William Van Zandt & Jane Milmore, and is produced in
association with Samuel French, Inc.
“Love,
Sex and the IRS” tells the story of Jon Trachtman an Leslie Arthur, two
longtime roommates and best friends. Jon is engaged to Kate Dennis, who has
been having an affair behind Jon’s back with Leslie. Meanwhile, Jon, an
accountant, has been listing Leslie as his wife on his tax returns for the
past 4 years to save some money. The day of reckoning comes when a phone
call from Mr. Floyd Spinner of the IRS informs them of their impending
audit. The three decide to attempt to pull off a con: Pass Leslie off for a
day as Jon’s wife. The plan, to say the least, goes hilariously awry.
The
cast consists of Doug Buffaloe as Leslie Arthur, Martin Lemaire as Jon
Trachtman, Jennifer Morgan as Kate Dennis, Tom Guerre as Floyd Spinner,
Clint Shepherd as Mr. Jansen, Terry Fiset/Mollie Anderson as Vivian
Trachtman, Jessica Cothron as Connie, and Corey Wade as Arnold Grunion.

"LEGENDS OF BROADWAY With Donald Pippin and Ron Raines"
Conductor and pianist Donald Pippin (Oliver!, A Chorus Line, Mane,
Walt Disney’s Snow White) with stage and television star, Ron Raines
(Guiding Light, Chicago, Showboat) will take the main stage at the
Carrollwood Cultural Center in the concert of the year!

Donald Pippin
(Conductor, pianist)
Having
served for 14 years as Musical Director of New York’s famed Radio City Music
Hall, Donald Pippin is one of Broadway’s most honored conductors. He is the
recipient of the Tony Award for Oliver!, the Emmy Award for
Broadway Sings Jule Styne, the Drama Desk Award for “consistently
outstanding musical direction and commitment to the theatre” and a gold
record award for original cast album of A Chorus Line.
Ron Raines
(Star
of stage and television)
For 15
years, Ron Raines headed the cast of CBS-TV’s longest running daytime
serious Guiding Light.
For
his work as “Alan Spaulding”, Mr. Raines was nominated for 2003, 2004 and
2006 Emmy Awards as Outstanding Lead Actor and was nominated three times for
the SOAP OPERA DIGEST Award as “Outstanding Villain.”
Mr.
Raines is well known to theatre audiences in New York and around the country
as one of America’s leading musical theatre performers most recently
starring on Broadway as Billy Flynn in Chicago. He also starred on
Broadway as Gaylord Ravenal in the 1983 revival of Jerome Kern’s Showboat
costarring Donald O’Connor. He originated the role of Teddy Roosevelt’s
ambitious son-in-law Nick Longworth in the short-lived Broadway musical
Teddy and Alice starring Len Cariou and went on to originate the dual
role of Jupiter/Amphytrion in the Off-Broadway musical hit Olympus on my
Mind.
